What is Lucky Leap?

2
The software has detected a number of files for Lucky Leap which I have to agree with is some form of adware. However, it looks like herdProtect/Reason Heuristics is the only engine that detects most of these files. if Lucky Leap is malware/adware why don't all the AV programs find and remove this. I currently run McAfee which has never alerted me of this.

The following files installed in the folder C:\Program Files\lucky leap\ where detected by herdProtect:
  • luckyleapBHO.dll
  • updateluckyleap.exe
  • luckyleap.Common.dll
  • luckyleap.BrowserFilter.Helper.dll
Can someone please enlighten me as to what this software does and how its possible Lucky Leap got on my PC and past McAfee?

I traced the installer back to a piece of software I downloaded from CBS Interactive. In chrome the full URL is displayed as: http://software-files-a.cnet.com/s/software/10/50/20/90/cbsidlm-cbsi134-Lyric_Finder_91-ORG-10502089.exe?lop=link&ptype=3001&ontid=2169&siteId=4 - Kim01 121 months ago

Lucky Leap is an adware application that is distributed by Yontoo, a division of Sambreel Holdings based in Carlsbad, CA. Lucky Leap is a rebrand of the various other web browser extensions that Yontoo delivers all with similar names and web sites including (BrowseFox, WebCake, and dozen upon dozens of others). The program is mostly included as part of a download bundle, even CNet's Download.com used to distribute this in their installer (but no longer do so).

Upon installation, this adware installs itself as a web browser addin/plugin and or extension depending on the browser the user has. It will effectively inject various forms of advertising in the browser including but not limited to inline text and multi-site searching, related search results, comparison shopping popups and a number of banners and popups/popunders for additional offers of both standard ads as well as unwanted software.

In addition to displaying advertisements, Lucky Leap will also modify the web browsers settings in order to facilitate its ad injection offers. When installed and without any notice (other then on the website EULA luckyleap.net/terms), the software will automatically adjust the 2 second load time in Internet Explorer by turning it off. This action prevents IE from warning the user that a slower BHO is causing some unwanted effects. It will also it will modify the browser's Instant Search feature and will adjust the browser so that clicking on a search engine results page (SERP) link will open the page in a new browser tab.
