Does herdProtect need to be constantly connected to the internet?

I want to use this for my Microsoft Surface Pro 2 (Running windows 8.1). And I was wondering if I constantly need to be online if I'm going to use herdProtect? I move around a lot so I don't get a wifi signal constantly.

Does herdProtect need to download offline definition updates for it to work? Or does it make use of definitions in the cloud?

herdProtect is a cloud based scanner, so yes, an Internet connection needs to be present in order for it to fully work.
