Meaning of symbols on scan progress indicator bar

Just curious about the scanning progress indicator with the moving bar chart. Do the vertical bars have real significance (e.g., size of modules in queue to be scanned) or is it just animated decoration?

The bars indicate the amount of I/O in bytes the scanning process is consuming per file. While it does has significance, its more just for effect (but based on real active data during the scan).
